FAQs ABOUT KUEBERL CHIPTUNING PRODUCT
The most important advantages:
- Quick installation and removal and quick retrofit
- No intervention in the original sealed engine control unit
- No detection of tuning when reading control unit in the workshop
- Fault identification remains as original
With modern electronically controlled diesel engines, data communication is established between the engine control unit and the fuel injection pump as a function of various parameters. Each chip is linked via this data line and as such takes on engine control.
Yes, the tuning boxes are specifically matched to the vehicle in the order. A special Kueberl Tuning programming tool allows partner operations to also change highlighted (engineered) parameters.
By way of example, the designation V-CR means nothing more than "Chip for Common Rail injection". But this does not mean that the same chip is to be mounted in all common rail vehicles. There are countless different adapters, hardware and software versions (such as 1 channel, 2 channel, B1, B2 etc.). The subject is so complex and constantly changing that for the sake of customer ease we always only talk about the CR chip.
Yes. Development work is constantly under way. The important thing is to market a product that is superior to the competition in quality and appearance, but at the same time is extremely easy to install.
Yes. Kueberl Tuning has been developing its tuning products since 1997 at the same site.
Development, production and final assembly has been taking place since 1997 in Austria.
Yes. And the housing as well. The plug has also been provided with seals.
The cable and tuning chip should be securely mounted with cable ties.
Nevertheless, having the transparent clear glass housing cover pointing upwards is recommended to prevent water entering the chip along the cable. This also allows a clear view of the LEDs for performing a quick function test (GREEN LED lights up = CHIP OK).
Yes. The products are protected against extreme fluctuations between low and high temperatures.
The cable and tuning chip should be securely mounted with cable ties. Nevertheless, during assembly it is recommended that the cable and chip are installed in such a way to avoid direct contact with hot engine parts.
Logically, this would not be good on a permanent basis for an originally installed part either.
Eco tuning optimises the vehicle's engine control in such a way to achieve high torque as early as possible. The increased torque allows the next gear up to be selected earlier allowing the vehicle to move with a lower engine speed. This saves fuel. Our products are designed for this as standard.
There is also our own ECO program ( Program NO. 2 ; see POTENTIOMETER FAQs ).
VEHICLE TYPE FAQs OR, AS MAY APPLY WHERE CAN A KUEBERL CHIP BE INSTALLED
For reasons of efficiency or economics, the vehicle manufacturers build one engine block that they equip with different engine maps in order to provide the engine with more or less performance at an affordable price (e.g. a 2.0 litre engine block with 110, 150, 190, 240 hp as standard).
In addition, the vehicle manufacturers match the performance to the best possible insurance class for the respective countries, which may lead to the same vehicle being sold with different performance details abroad.
There may be mechanical tolerances due to production reasons that will be easier to easier to compensate on final acceptance.
In principle yes as the manufacturer itself provides its engines with performance to a greater or lesser extent.
Recommendation: Nevertheless, waiting a few weeks before installing the tuning chip is recommended as, in theory, a new car could be delivered with a small technical fault that was not apparent on final acceptance.
This could then be incorrectly associated with a tuning chip. In addition, the customer should get a feeling for how the engine drives without a tuning chip in order to be able to subsequently compare the difference.
In principle, the mileage is irrelevant and a chip can of course be installed. But these vehicles in particular should undergo regular servicing or inspection.
Yes, provided that a new up-to-date Kueberl tuning chip is mounted and not a second-hand one. In other words with new hardware and software.
TURBO DIESEL engines.
Of course, the increased performance is even higher as the tuning needs to be seen as a percentage.
Yes, with the only proviso that electric drive is combined with a diesel engine.
No. All types of transmission (manual, automatic, double clutch for example DSG, S-Tronic, Multitronic etc.) can be tuned in conjunction with chip tuning. The switching behaviour is slightly adjusted by the increase in torque.
Yes, of course. The requirement is that you order a new up-to-date tuning chip as the software and hardware are constantly being developed.
You can continue to use biofuels provided these are approved by the vehicle manufacturer.
Please contact Customer Service if it is a turbocharged diesel vehicle. Under normal circumstances, all turbocharged diesels can be tuned, regardless of whether a motor car, HGV, bus, tractor or boat.
FAQs ABOUT KUEBERL CHIPTUNING INSTALLATION
In principle anyone: The common rail chip was specifically designed for self-installation.
Installation is self-explanatory.
Easy-to-understand assembly instructions in the respective language with photos included make installation easier.
The chip is delivered to the customer 'ready for installation and perfectly matched to the vehicle'. In other words: "The customer does not need to set anything".
The tuning chip should be installed where it is not subjected to intense direct heat, vibrations or, as may apply, moisture.
So not on the engine but in the engine compartment, for example near the battery. The cable should be well laid and not in contact with metallic engine parts.
The cable and tuning chip should therefore be securely mounted with cable ties. Having the transparent clear glass housing cover pointing upwards is also recommended to prevent water entering the chip along the cable. Installing in this way also allows a clear view of the LEDs for performing a quick function test (GREEN LED lights up = CHIP OK).
- Avoid direct contact with parts exposed to excessive heat (engine block and parts thereof)
- Avoid attaching to hoses (cooling hoses, brake hoses etc.)
- Avoid attaching in the vicinity of moving parts (e.g. fan, timing belt etc.)
- Position the chip somewhere not directly exposed to significant heat or water (not on the engine, radiator tank or radiator hoses etc.)
- The chip should not be directly mounted on the engine in order to avoid vibrations.
- The chip is programmed to perform an automatic function test with EVERY new 'start-up phase of the tuning chip' and then (after approx. 10 minutes) switch to the 'STANDBY MODE' if the vehicle is not moved. This switches all LEDs off.
- QUICK FUNCTION TEST: GREEN LED ILLUMINATED = CHIP WORKING
Please read the assembly instructions first. Nothing should happen with correct assembly following the instructions. The products have been developed in line with the Plug & Play principle without out needing a power cable to be laid. Should you still not be able to manage, please ask our Customer Service who will help you.
By way of example, the designation V-CR means nothing more than 'Chip for Common Rail injection'.
Always contacting Customer Service is therefore recommended as even small changes to the type of engine control unit make new parameters, or software/hardware updates for the tuning chip necessary.
Should the chip no longer match, we offer to exchange the old chip for the customer or, as may apply, offset it against the purchase price. We will be glad to provide a bespoke quote. The following information is to be provided for quick processing: Invoice (invoice, customer and item number, date of invoice), hardware, software and adapter number, which can be found on the respective sticker, for example SW V-CR(5) xxxxxx etc.
The information for which vehicle model the chip was originally ordered (precise details such as model, year of construction, horsepower etc.)
FAQs ABOUT THE PERIOD AFTER INSTALLING THE CHIPTUNING
Under normal circumstances the top speed only increases slightly by about 5 to 10 km/h (depending on the wind and incline) as the engine has more power due to the higher torque.
The maximum speed therefore remains untouched or, as may apply, the same.
Invariably, the development of a new tuning chip module is primarily more about engine power in the lower engine speed range (turbo lag) and not the top speed as safe and careful engine tuning is the objective.
Service life is invariably dependent on how the driver drives, but this would also affect a production vehicle without a chip.
Yes, our chip tuning is within the tolerance range, and service intervals should be kept to in line with manufacturer specifications.
A sports air filter provides the engine with extra air and, to a certain extent, replaces a stronger turbocharger. Its main feature is the exhaust quality as opposed to extra performance (max. 4 horsepower).
Fuel consumption in accordance with DIN 70030 (city cycle and constant journey at 90/120 km/h) corresponds to the production figures.
With operation in the lower engine speed range in accordance with DIN 70030, consumption due to the increased efficiency is even lower. With any journeys with the throttle open, for example on the motorway, standard fuel consumption is exceeded. Fuel consumption is therefore dependent on the driving style, with extra output used to drive in a sportier fashion OR fuel is saved, which is also gaining in popularity.
The tuning chip provides higher torque, which above all is found in the lower and medium engine speed range. This allows the next gear up to be selected earlier allowing the vehicle to move with a lower engine speed. Appropriately adjusting the way you drive also lowers consumption.
Tip: In order to achieve lower fuel consumption, changing early to a lower gear or, as may apply, driving in a lower engine speed range and not using the gears in full are recommended. Formula: Lower engine speed and higher gears = less consumption .
This is assisted by installing an additional control unit as efficiency is increased because the chip kicks in very early in the lowest engine speed range or, as may apply, load range.
Yes, mainly the increased torque in the lower engine speed range. The smoother engine power can be noticed immediately. Acceleration is far in excess of production values as engine efficiency increases.
No adjustment is required as no extra load is causes with normal regular driving. In principle, the load on the brakes depends on the driving style.
FAQs ABOUT RETROFITTING, DIAGNOSIS AND WARRANTY
Yes, just as easily as with before installation using the Plug & Play principle. As soon as the tuning box has been removed and the plug connections connected as originally, the vehicle is back to its production state.
Yes, once the tuning box and cable have been removed, the vehicle is back in its production state.
There is no direct evidence of a chip having been installed if it is removed, and it is practically invisible to the naked eye. If, for example, the rail sensor plug is removed from the rail sensor with the ignition on, a fault is recorded by the fault log. However this does not mean that a chip was installed. When the fault log is read by the workshop it could be an indicator that someone has disconnected this plug due to a chip being installed or, as may apply, it could be interpreted this way. In this way, proceed carefully when disconnecting the plug connection. Wait until the control unit has switched itself off (ideally about 5 minutes with the ignition off or, as may apply, with the central locking).
In general, a diagnosis unit only reads the data saved to the engine control unit. However the Kueberl tuning chip does not access the engine control unit or change the manufacturer's software in any shape or form.
We would nevertheless like to point out that some manufacturers, when reading the vehicle log, also partially read relevant performance data and try to draw conclusions of a possible increase in performance.
Where the tuning chip is not in the engine, this information only points to electronically enhanced performance, but is not proof. Similar data may in part also be caused by deviations in the manufacturer's production.
Removing the tuning chip before customer service is recommended in order to provide a service based on the production vehicle.
A 2-year warranty is provided for the product as of the date of invoice. Please keep the invoice safe as it acts as confirmation of the warranty and is requested in the event of a claim.
Removing the tuning chip before visiting the workshop is recommended. This returns the vehicle to the production status and there is no longer any evidence of tuning. This eliminates any subsequent argument and rules out 'chip tuning' as the source of a fault for the workshop.
An engine guarantee is not included in the purchase price. This must be arranged separately. The company NSA-Garantie is recommended as an example.
We are able to offer Technical Inspection Association certificates for a wide range of vehicles. These are not included in the purchase price. Please clarify with Customer Service before purchasing.
Installation of a tuning chip requires type approval by the legislator and may lead to the loss of the operating permit and, as a result, the loss of insurance cover or, as may apply, manufacturer guarantee and warranty claims.
There are principally two ways available for recording increased performance: Recording via a parts certificate or an individually entry. The vehicle owner is legally obliged to record any modification on or to the vehicle in the associated vehicle documents.
Where an additional recording of the tuning chip by the Technical Inspection Association (TÜV) is required, including the required individual acceptance, additional costs must be reckoned with.
As very many tuning boxes are in circulation that sometimes look similar, confirmation of purchase is invariably asked for. For the very reason of providing professional support with regard to products, age and features, in other words provide a consistent image.
If the tuning chip is not a Kueberl Tuning product, providing a judgement about it would not be professional.
